about
Gabriel Zufferey studies in Geneva; from eight to sixteen at the Conservatoire de la Place Neuve, and from twelve to fourteen at AMR, an association of jazz and improvised music.
He starts playing concerts at the early age of 12.
At the ages of 14 and 15, he receives the prize for the "most promising performer" granted by SACEM at the City of Paris' Martial Solal jazz piano competition and the "jury's special prize" at the solo piano competition of the Montreux Jazz Festival.
As a youngster, he already performs his own compositions and releases at 19 his first album Après l'orage in trio. Follows, a few years later, Hear & kNow in quartet and Contemplation, recorded solo in an isolated mountain village.
This album draws the attention of the New York City Jazz Record, and some renowned musicians agree on the highly personal quality of his music.
These three albums receive all 4 stars from Jazzman/Jazzmagazine (France)
Alongside his activities as a concert artist and composer, he is also involved in teaching and in pedagogical researches.
In his current musical projects, in addition to forays into classical music and traditional Gnawa music, he continues to pay homage to the music of the great pianist Bill Evans. Gabriel Zufferey reharmonizes some of his pieces and dives ever deeper into this rich, intimate universe. The concerts he offers today reflect his attachment to this immense artist.
